Faro de La Entallada lighthouse

The lighthouse sits on a cliff overlooking the endless blue of the Atlantic — a great spot for photography and nature lovers. It stands in the municipality of Tuineje, near Gran Tarajal and Las Playitas, just 6 km from us, and holds the title of the closest point in the Canary Islands to the African continent. Morocco is only 100 km away as the crow flies.

Built from red stone blocks, the lighthouse is an example of traditional Fuerteventura architecture. It was commissioned by Carlos Alcón Sanz, who designed several other lighthouses. In its day La Entallada was the most powerful lighthouse in the Canaries; today it forms part of the SIVE monitoring system.

Playa La Pared

La Pared on the west coast is a picturesque village known for its dramatic volcanic hills and wild dark-sand beaches. Playa de Viejo Rey is popular with surfers of every level thanks to long waves and gently shelving sand. Several surf schools here offer lessons for beginners.

Oasis Park Fuerteventura — La Lajita

The largest zoological and botanical garden in the Canary Islands. Its 800,000 m² are home to more than 3,000 animals from 250 species, including hippos, African elephants and lemurs. The park offers animal feeding, camel rides and educational shows with parrots, sea lions, birds of prey and reptiles. It also contains a botanical garden with the largest cactus collection in Europe.

Open daily 9:00–18:00, with free bus transport from various parts of the island.

Monumento Natural de Ajuy

A protected area holding the oldest rocks in the Canary Islands, formed more than 100 million years ago in the Cretaceous. Visitors can admire imposing cliffs and explore the Cuevas de Ajuy, carved out by the force of the ocean. The path there crosses fossilised dunes and passes historic lime kilns.

The seaside village of Ajuy serves fresh seafood in its local restaurants and has a black sand beach.

La Solapa beach

A remote beach ringed by steep cliffs and wild vegetation, which drew international attention as a filming location for Eternals. Ideal for anyone looking for quiet and wanting to escape the crowds — a great place to relax, swim and explore the local landscape.

Jandía beach

One of the most beautiful and popular beaches in the Canaries. It offers upmarket resorts, wide stretches of sand and plenty of activities including windsurfing, kiteboarding and diving. Its extensive dunes also make it a favourite with hikers and cyclists.

Nearby stands the mysterious Villa Winter, tied to legends about Nazi activity. The beach is about an hour's drive from the apartment (roughly 60 km).

Mount Tindaya

A geological landmark formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. Its conical shape is the result of erosion and the eruptions that shaped the whole island. The climb is not demanding and most visitors with average fitness can manage it; the summit opens up panoramic views over the ocean.

Legend has it that ancient tribes gathered here to worship the forces of nature. The mountain is still considered a sacred place today.

Playa de Sotavento

This sandy beach on the south-east coast runs for several kilometres and is known for the shallow lagoons that form at high tide, creating ideal conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Its size and natural beauty also make it popular with those looking for peace and quiet.

Dunas de Corralejo

This natural park in the north of the island is known for vast sand dunes running 10.5 km along the coast and 2.5 km inland. The largest dune system in the Canaries was formed by sand blown over from the Sahara and offers a striking combination of white sand and turquoise Atlantic.
